WHY WOULD I NEED A DOULA?

Doulas are very useful and helpful members to a birth care team. I offer continuous, uninterrupted support to the mother as well as her partner. According to articles and studies, including this one by Evidence Based Birth, a doula focusing only on you, the mother, can affect the outcome of your birth!
Compared with women who had no continuous support, women with companions (like doulas) were:
  • 28% less likely to have a cesarean section
  • 31% less likely to use synthetic oxytocin (Pitocin) to speed up labor
  • 9% less likely to use any pain medication
  • 34% less likely to rate their childbirth experience as negative
As a doula, I am there to uplift you and support your birth the way you want it to go. By assisting you in coming up with your birth plan and giving you continuous attention and support as you go through labor and delivery, I am nonjudgmental and affirming in your hopes and wishes. We all work together!

Why a sibling doula?

"Can't I just have my parents watch my older child?"
If your child is genuinely interested in being involved in your labor and birth and you want them to be present and/or informed of the process, you may want to consider a sibling doula. Having someone to inform, empower, and emotionally support your child can tremendously help her or him in the transition to becoming a "big sister/brother."
As a sibling doula, I provide the same type of continuous support to your older child as I would to a laboring mother as a birth doula, while maintaining a professional understanding of labor and birth. Sometimes having a family member with your older child is challenging when the family member is distracted by your intense emotional and physical experience of labor and birth. As a birth professional who is familiar with the process, a sibling doula can provide your child with a non-judgmental perspective on what is happening during your labor and birth.
